LG unveils the LG G-Pad

After numerous leaks and teasers as well as closing in on the heels of unveiling their latest powerhouse LG G2, LG electronics has unveild a tablet called the G-Pad. Its an 8-incher which has been launched in a market that is already crowded with 7 and 8 inchers. As you may expect it has a WUXGA screen (Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array) having a resolution of 1920 x 1200. I expect the display to be crisp and vivid, I will talk more about the display once I get my hands on the device though I wonder when especially since the device will be available only in Q4 +/- a couple of months depending on your region.

Next, you get about 2 gigs of RAM, 16 gigs of storage. Not very sure if it has micro SD card slot at the moment. Its powered by quad-core Snapdragon - 600 processor clocked at 1.7 Ghz. I was surprised to find out that it is not powered by a Snapdragon - 800 processor since it will make multi-tasking and running resource intensive apps a breeze since it can handle higher clock speeds. Their choice seems to have been justified probably because the device is placed in a slot below their flagship LG-G2. LG has added a 4600 mah battery to supplement such killer hardware.

On the software front, it touts the android 4.2, jellybean. You can expect LG's UI customizations. Launching a device in an already crowded market, LG has made an effort to distinguish its device from the crowd. It has added 3 software enhancements namely Q-pair which lets you receive calls and messages 0n the tab from phones running jelly bean (not quite sure if it is restricted to only LG phones, will have to take a look at the device) Then you have Q-Slide which lets you run 3 software instances at once. Then you have a feature called knock-out which lets you wake your tablet up by double tapping its screen, similar to double tap to wake feature which nokia has added to its phones via the amber update.

The G-Pad will be available in black and white colours.

End

About the Author

Hi there,

I am Prashant Satyanarayan, born and raised in Mumbai and currently residing in India's technological hub and brain center of Bangalore pursuing a course in video editing. Born in the year 1991 or you can say a netizen where all information in available in computers. And in the last five or six years all of this information has been available on fingertips by means of sophisticated mobiles and tablets. I have been witness to massive strides that have been made in communications technology right from Pagers (in a couple of years, the next generation of netizens would not know what it is) to 4G.

Now let me tell you the reason as to why I am writing this blog. Simply put I am in total love and awe with today's breed of mobile phones and tablets. I do not have physical devices to review other than my Nokia lumia 720 and a first generation nexus 7 tablet. But I will look up on the internet for information regarding these numerous devices which launch everyday and add my own thoughts and feelings about the same and share it with like minded individuals who share a passion similar to mine. Mobile phones and tablets in today's world are like the swiss army knives of communication technology. Devices today are a compact powerhouse with an entire computer being fitted onto a handheld device. There is nothing in these devices which you cannot do. They have brilliant cameras with one OEM (original equipment manufacturer) trying to beat the other when it comes to not just photography but also the overall capabilities of their respective devices.

My first mobile phone was the Nokia 7650. Have owned close to 10 mobile phones to this day, each one being unique and in most cases the successive device being better than its predecessor. Being my first attempt at blogging, I hope this turns out to be a fruitful journey for me as well as the viewers. I would also like to hear comments and opinions about the subject as well as ways and means in which I can improve this blog.
